Who I Am

Busayo Oluwadamilare Morakinyo (BOM) is an innovative Development, Governance, and Social Accountability expert with ingrained experience spanning over 6 years, working with various communities across Africa. I have a background in History & International Studies degree and a master's Degree in Humanitarian and Refugee Studies. I am currently the Director of Community Engagement at Connected Development, and I Lead FollowTheMoney International, a movement popularly acclaimed to be the fastest growing social accountability movement in Africa, with a network of over 8500 young people demanding improved public services from their elected representatives across the 36 States in Nigeria and 9 other countries in Africa (Liberia, Kenya, South Sudan, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Zimbabwe, Malawi, The Gambia, Cape Verde). 

 

I am a methodical development professional offering an extensive background in developing campaigns, advocacies and policy influencing, executing campaign plans and evaluating results to produce return-on-investment data. A seasoned and versatile expert recognized for working autonomously in ever-changing settings and successfully managing multiple engagements. I am dedicated to maintaining high-quality standards and achieving projected goals.

I am a disruptive and innovative thinker, whose cutting-edge ideas on civic tech are changing how social innovators view sustainability within the ecosystem. My role includes establishing and maintaining effective relationships with partners across policymakers, community-based groups, government and civil society, that advances the development and socio-economic progress of the communities across Africa. I seat on the Board of BoysQuarters Africa, Open Sunshine and Urban Alert, all social development startups focused on gender, social accountability and campaign, and also support various other organizations by providing mentorship as they grow through their formative years and scale. I am a two-time TEDx Speaker, who has mastered the act and art of storytelling as a tool for citizens' mobilisation and participation with practical experiences that border around advocacy, campaigns, grassroots mobilisation, citizen engagement, capacity building, and research.
